BCIT had the pleasure of hosting representatives from Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2), Mohawk College, Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, and Saskatchewan Polytechnic for the Community Workforce Development Project / BCIT Community of Practice Meetings over the span of two days.
The group visited BCIT School of Construction and the Environment on the Burnaby Campus on Day 1 led by Marita Luk who helped showcase some of our program areas such as:
- BCIT Indigenous Initiatives and Partnerships
- Community-based Education Initiatives: Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS)
- Renewable Energy Lab (Wind Turbines, Geothermal, Solar, Hydrogen
- Steel Trades (Ironworker, Boilermaker, Metal Fabricator, Marine Fitter)
- Zero Energy/Emissions Buildings Learning Centre (ZEBLC) featuring Net Zero, Passive House, Heat Pumps, Whole Building Life
C2R2 is a ground breaking pan-Canadian college initiative to bridge the skills gap for a Resilient Recovery. Convening colleges, institutions, cégeps, and polytechnics with acknowledged leadership on sustainability-related education, research and engagement in their provinces and jurisdictions.
The Community Workforce Development Program puts communities at the heart of determining their economic futures. It is a pilot to test community-based approaches to workforce planning and skills training to support local economic development and growth.
