BCIT is pleased to announce that Stephen McMillan, MEng, PEng, RSE, has been appointed Associate Dean of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Energy (SoE). We are thrilled to have him lead and support the Mechanical Engineering department in ensuring academic excellence and delivering a world-class student experience.
Stephen began his studies at BCIT in 1994 to learn how to design and make bicycle components, and he graduated from the Manufacturing Technology diploma program. He brings extensive experience from his twelve-year career as a red-seal machinist and managing a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine shop. After working in industry, Stephen returned to BCIT to complete the Bachelor of Technology in Manufacturing and Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degrees, and then joined the Mechanical Engineering department as an Assistant Instructor in 2010. Soon after, he took a leave to pursue a Master of Engineering (MEng) at UBC, specializing in CNC machine vibration analysis.
Stephen has been a BCIT Instructor for the past decade and has received the Teaching Excellence Award. As Program Head of Manufacturing Technology since 2018 he has contributed to the program he originally graduated from. He believes strongly in lifelong learning and recently earned his Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) designation. His hobbies include 3D printing, bicycling, snowboarding, and camping with his wife and three young boys.
