Congratulations to the BCIT Marketing and Communications department for taking home multiple Awards of Excellence at the 2023 Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) National Gala Conference. Season two of the Fireweed podcast was awarded with Silver in the category of Best Multimedia Project and the 2021-2022 Year in Review publication received Bronze in the category of Best Publication.
The CPRS Awards of Excellence, established in 1962, is celebrated annually and showcases the best public relations and communications management projects and campaigns.
“This national recognition is a testament not just to the BCIT Marketing and Communications team, but to the many talented, collaborative, and inspiring partners across BCIT who help drive our brand,” said Lara Johnson, Vice-President, Marketing and Communications at BCIT. “Both the Year in Review and the Fireweed podcast clearly demonstrate how BCIT is a leader in delivering applied, flexible education – with learners driving workforce solutions in BC and around the world.”
The Best Multimedia Project category recognizes communications projects using a range of multimedia tactics to achieve an organization’s communication objectives. Season two of Fireweed is hosted by alumna Bianca Rego and consists of seven 20-minute episodes that feature and celebrate stories of people who have persevered and re-written their story in the face of disruption. During an unparalleled period of profound adjustment in the way people work, learn, and socialize, the stories of Fireweed provide a unique educational experience for listeners on topics including cannabis, career-connected learning, climate-resilient communities, regenerative travel, real estate, sustainable flight, and resilience at work and school.
The Best Publication category celebrates excellence in the art of publication. Judges look for clear, concise and imaginative writing, paired with effective use of graphics and that the piece demonstrates high editorial standards and overall creativity. The annual BCIT Year in Review publication is a celebration of the commitment of the Institute’s faculty, staff, and students in empowering people, shaping BC, and inspiring global progress. Stories from the 2021-2022 publication highlight the strength of BCIT in connecting industry, government, and education to deliver a transformational, applied learning experience for students. The cover, and subsequent inside spreads, uniquely emphasize how BCIT is supporting the social and economic prosperity of BC.
Both Fireweed and the Year in Review publication involve the collaborative efforts of teams and Schools across BCIT. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who supported in bringing these projects to life!
