Martin Bollo honoured by the CSCE with Fellow Designation

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is proud to see Martin Bollo, Faculty, Civil Engineering, elected as Fellow by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE). Martin is the first BCIT Civil Engineering faculty member to receive the prestigious Fellow distinction. A Fellow has attained civil engineering excellence and has contributed actively towards the progress of their profession. He was recently honoured at the CSCE 2022 Annual Conference.

Martin graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1989, and completed a Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1991. He then worked in consulting engineering in California and completed the requirements for his Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer designations.

Martin is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia. He returned to the Vancouver, British Columbia area in 1996 and resumed his consulting career, while also serving as the President of the Vancouver Structural Engineers Group Society (VSEGS) and initiating the committee to create the Structural Engineers Association of British Columbia (SEABC).  He also served on the Certificate in Structural Engineering Committee – which offers part-time studies courses to practicing structural engineers – and taught in the program.

In 2000, Martin joined the Department of Civil Engineering in the BCIT School of Construction and the Environment where his teaching has been recognized with the BCIT Award of Excellence in Teaching. He served as Faculty Advisor to the BCIT CSCE Student Chapter for over thirteen years, during which time the Chapter thrived and captured multiple CSCE President’s Awards for Best Student Chapter.

Martin is on the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia Academic Examiners Subcommittee (formerly Board of Examiners), and is also a long-time volunteer in community sports, having coached ice hockey, basketball, softball, lacrosse, and soccer teams.  He views his most important roles as being husband to his wife Donna, and father to his daughters Katie and Juliana.

Congratulations Martin on this prestigious honour!
