A checklist for Fall 2021 start

As you have likely heard, BCIT is working to implement vaccine-related protocols including mandatory confidential vaccine reporting for those immunized, and mandatory regular rapid testing for those who choose not to share their vaccination status or to not be vaccinated. In concert with the post-secondary sector, we hope to share these practices as soon as possible. In the meantime, the most important thing you can do to keep yourself and our community safe is get vaccinated, perform a daily self-assessment (health check), and wear a mask.

Please continue to check the BCIT COVID-19 response website for updates. We continue to add Frequently Asked Questions/Answers and information to these spaces as additional information becomes available. Stay safe and well.

A checklist for the start of your Fall term

Take note of these helpful recommendations and tips to ensure a smooth start for your in-person learning, working, or teaching at BCIT this term.

Before you arrive on campus:

Mask guidance:

  • Masks are now required in all indoor public areas on all BCIT campuses including classrooms, labs, shops, washrooms, study areas, hallways, lobbies, and stairwells.
  • Masks may be removed:
    • while actively consuming food or drink and seated in designated eating/drinking locations
    • while actively participating in physical activity at the Fitness Centre or Gym
    • while alone in a private office or teaching/learning space
    • if there is a barrier separating the individual from other persons, for example a divider or cubicles
    • briefly, in order to identify staff, faculty, or students
    • when delivering a presentation or lecture – only if separated by a barrier or with 2m physical distance from audience or class
  • Read the full Order of the Provincial Health Officer for additional guidance.
  • Students requesting an accommodation to the mask requirement based on medical or disability status should contact Accessibility Services at accessibility@bcit.ca to initiate their accommodation request process and will be required to submit valid medical documentation.
  • Faculty and staff requesting an accommodation to the mask requirement based on medical or disability status should contact Human Resources.
