Following last week’s announcement that marked Step 3 of the BC Restart Plan, the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training has released the COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Guidelines to support post-secondaries across the province in preparing for ongoing safe learning and working this fall. The COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Guidelines are designed to parallel BC’s four-step Restart Plan and were prepared in consultation with experts from BC’s post-secondary sector, the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, regional health authorities, and the BC Centre for Disease Control.
Consistent with these guidelines, BCIT is now entering a Step 3 Transition phase in preparation for our Fall 2021 term (September 7) when Step 4 will be in effect. Step 3 Transition includes:
- Masks are recommended
- Careful social contact
- Increased indoor and outdoor gathering capacity
- Gradual easing of COVID-19-specific restrictions (barriers, one-way hallway traffic, reduction of signage, return of common-area furniture, etc.)
- Increased on-campus activities and services (i.e. food services)
In addition to a comprehensive immunization program, a number of core public health measures are expected to continue to support the safe resumption of increased on-campus activities.
- If you are feeling unwell, stay home
- Daily health assessment
- Hand washing hygiene
To date, BCIT has already successfully and safely brought 40% of its programs back on campus for in-person learning and teaching. We are confident that our Institute has the resources, knowledge, and expertise to create a safe environment in welcoming more of our community members back on campus this fall.

Thank you for your ongoing patience, flexibility, and kindness as we work together in transitioning to our Fall 2021 term.
Stay safe and well.
