Safety Update | COVID-19 scenarios – April 15

In light of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in BC, I would like to remind you of the actions that you should take if you have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or if you have returned from international travel. In these situations, one of the most important things for you to do is to contact the Student Life Office through Early Assist or by emailing early_assist@bcit.ca. We are here to support you and your return to studies.

You have returned from international travel

You have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19

  • Seek medical attention immediately.
    • Contact Healthlink 811, BCIT Student Health Services – 604-432-8608 (call before attending), or Primary care physician
  • Follow the BC Centre for Disease Control self-isolating protocols
  • If you are on campus please avoid others and return home immediately
  • Inform your Program Head, Chief Instructor, or instructor
  • Submit a confidential report through Early Assist or by emailing early_assist@bcit.ca

You have concerns for your health or safety but have no symptoms or close contact with someone with COVID-19

  • Ensure you are aware of up-to-date information about COVID-19
  • Inform your Program Head, Chief Instructor, or instructor
  • Submit a confidential report through Early Assist or by emailing early_assist@bcit.ca

You have symptoms consistent with COVID-19

  • Seek medical attention immediately.
    • Contact Healthlink 811, BCIT Student Health Services – 604-432-8608 (call before attending), or Primary care physician
  • Follow the BC Centre for Disease Control self-isolating protocols
  • If you are on campus please avoid others and return home immediately. If you are experiencing serious symptoms please contact 811, BCIT Student Health Services, or your primary care physician. In the case of an emergency please contact 911.
  • Inform your Program Head, Chief Instructor, or instructor
  • Submit a confidential report through Early Assist or by emailing early_assist@bcit.ca

You have tested positive for COVID-19 

  • Follow all guidelines that are provided by the public health authority. This will include self-isolating and possible contact tracing though the health authority.
  • If you are on campus please avoid others and return home immediately.
  • Inform your Program Head, Chief Instructor, or instructor
  • Submit a confidential report through Early Assist or by emailing early_assist@bcit.ca

You are living on campus and have symptoms or a confirmed case of COVID-19

  • Seek medical attention immediately.
    • Contact Healthlink 811, BCIT Student Health Services – 604-432-8608 (call before attending), or Primary care physician
  • Follow the BC Centre for Disease Control self-isolating protocols
  • If you are currently on campus and around others, please avoid others and return to a home environment. Isolate off campus if possible.
  • Contact Student Housing at housing@bcit.ca
  • Submit a confidential report through Early Assist or by emailing early_assist@bcit.ca

You can only be cleared to return to in-person activities by the Student Life Office.

You will need to have completed self-isolation (if applicable) and be asymptomatic. Please contact the Student Life Office at early_assist@bcit.ca if you need to be cleared to return to in-person activities.
