BCIT is thrilled to announce Dr. Andrea Frisque as Dean for the School of Energy.
Andrea comes to BCIT from Stantec Inc. and will be starting on May 17, 2021. She has over 15 years of experience related to analyses and computer simulation for sustainable design. She is a mechanical engineer and began her academic career at RWTH Aachen, one of Germany’s most prestigious polytechnics. Andrea holds a doctoral degree in theoretical physics and is certified as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
At Stantec, Andrea leads a specialized engineering team and drives innovation in design and process. She shares these advances with the public as evidenced in her publications, presentations, and teachings. She is a Founding Director of the Canadian Passive House Institute (CanPHI) and holds Adjunct Professor status at UBC.
Andrea brings with her quantifiable outcomes, connections with industry, and strong interdisciplinary knowledge. With her ability to bridge to virtually all other Schools, she will be instrumental in leading the discourse towards a comprehensive strategic plan at the School of Energy with respect to digital transformation, Industry 4.0/5.0, and smart systems. She is a fervent believer in the collaboration between industrial trades, technologists and engineers, and integrated workforces, which effectively represents the BCIT philosophy.
“Practicing as an engineer in British Columbia, I have seen how very important it is to provide high quality education for everyone participating in a project, not only the design engineers. Working with BCIT graduates I have seen first hand the success of BCIT’s approach of combining trades, technology, and engineering practitioners in one School. I look forward to making my contribution toward BCIT continuing on this path of success,” said Andrea.
As Dean for the School of Energy, Andrea will be a permanent member of Deans’ Council and other pan-institutional bodies.
Welcome to BCIT, Andrea!
