BCIT expands funding for researchers

BCIT is excited to continue to support applied research by expanding the Institute Research Funds (IRF) to Phase 2.  This additional grant will help foster the development of world-class researchers capable of making a credible application for Canada Research Chair or other external funding.

“This grant of up to $100,000 over three years will provide one of our researchers with the funding they need to pursue existing research initiatives and allow them to leverage funds from external agencies and partners that they would otherwise be unable to access,” said Kim Dotto, Dean, Applied Research and Centre for Research and Innovation. “We are committed to advancing the growth of our applied research champions by supporting their projects and taking them to the next phase”.

BCIT is a people-focused organization with faculty and staff who are integral to our success. Protecting our investment in people by supporting applied research as a driver to attract and retain excellent faculty and students is key to the Institute’s long-term commitment to applied research excellence.

Since the BCIT Institute Research Funds program was established in 2011, it has supported 65 research projects and 72 researchers, with $2.8 million awarded.

Applied Research

Applied research at BCIT is exciting. It creates practical learning opportunities for BCIT’s students, provides innovative solutions to industry challenges, and produces new, commercially relevant technology products and applications.

Applied research provides innovative solutions to real-world challenges of business and industry, helping them increase their competitive strength and productivity. Our researchers use a collaborative and technology-based approach to problem-solving that provides accelerated solutions that benefit society today. Drawing on faculty from more than 200 technical programs within six BCIT schools, the full-time research staff of our Applied Research groups MAKE+, SMART, and NRG, we can assemble project teams with multi-disciplinary skills and expertise.
