Some clarity on mask requirements on BCIT campuses when physical distancing is not consistently possible.
Mask requirements – when physical distancing isn’t possible
Where maintaining two metres physical distance is NOT possible on campus, required mitigations must be outlined and approved in your Safety Plans.
As a general rule, when you can’t consistently maintain the recommended physical distance —a minimum of two metres—everyone involved must wear a disposable 3-ply face mask. In these situations, a cloth mask or a face shield on its own is not acceptable.
In addition to wearing 3-ply face masks, programs and departments may require eyewear, face shields, or additional personal protective equipment as part of their site requirements.
Disposable 3-ply face masks are available for staff, faculty, and students. Any student requiring masks should speak with their instructor(s).
General mask reminder
BCIT students, faculty, staff, and visitors are required to wear a mask in all common areas on campus. This includes, spaces shared by other people, such as study areas, meeting rooms, open offices, cubicles, and stairwells. It also includes anywhere physical distancing of two metres may not be consistently possible.
People who are not able to wear a mask for medical or other reasons are exempt and are asked to be especially careful to maintain a safe distance from others.
If you are unsure of your department’s requirements, please speak to your instructor(s).
Thank you for your continued support and for keeping the BCIT community safe.
