BCIT is delighted to announce the appointment of Laura Vail as BCIT’s Senior Director, Student Success.
As Senior Director, Laura will lead BCIT’s Student Success division in the development of strategies, programs, and broad initiatives aimed at promoting student success, well-being, and resilience. This role provides senior leadership to our teams in Counselling & Student Development, Student Health Services, Accessibility Services, Student Life (including student judicial affairs), Student Housing, Student Financial Aid & Awards, and the Centre for Workplace Education.
Student success has been at the core of Laura’s work and educational pursuits over the past 10 years. Laura comes to BCIT from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where she most recently served as Director, Student Success. Prior to this role, Laura held progressively senior positions at Langara College, the University of British Columbia, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Laura holds a Master of Education from Simon Fraser University, with a concentration in Post-Secondary Leadership in Student Affairs, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Fraser Valley. Laura believes that with the proper supports, all students can find belonging and academic success in their post-secondary studies. Laura is also particularly passionate about the role of student affairs professionals in helping students build resilience.
The Student Success division continues to play a crucial role in BCIT’s pandemic response, providing new and adapted resources and ensuring that students receive the support they need in order to thrive in their remote and blended learning environments. Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to BCIT’s Student Success teams as she hits the ground running as she assumes the Senior Director role.
