For BC Construction Month 2020, it is especially important to thank workers in the construction industry for their efforts in building our community and maintaining structures to keep us functioning safely. BC’s construction industry consists of more than 250,000 workers, and many of whom are essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
From skilled workers and contractors to manufacturers, suppliers, architects, engineers, professional services, training providers, public owners, and more, everyone in the construction industry has a role to play: and all are a part of Construction Month 2020.
In celebration of this month, BCIT School of Construction and the Environment took the opportunity to do some random acts of appreciation while maintaining physical distance. We brought a little something positive to the frontline construction workers who continue to dedicate their services and keep our industry running safely and productively during the pandemic. Examples of the random acts of appreciation included Dom Costantini, Bird Construction Vice President and District Manager, and Superintendent Lee Sullivan arranging a visit to see some of their team Alison Smith, Eric Grafstro, Jerry Woykin, Michael Both and Dan Rippon hard at work on the new $78.3 million, state-of-the-art BCIT Health Sciences Centre. This will also be the first building to be part of the BCIT INSPIRE Campaign.
BCIT School of Construction and the Environment Dean Wayne Hand and his team were also thanked for their work in transitioning over 60 full-time programs and over 270 part-time courses to primarily online during the COVID-19 outbreak. Given the practical nature of BCIT’s unique and industry-based programming, this transition has been complex and multi-faceted.
Special thanks to the BC Construction Association President, Chris Atchison and his team for their leadership on BC Construction Month.
