Congratulations to Wayne Hand, Dean for School of Construction and the Environment at BCIT, for being awarded the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VCRA) Outstanding Achievement Award in the Education Leadership category. This award was presented to Wayne during the annual VCRA Awards of Excellence event and recognizes Wayne for his volunteerism and dedication in advancing education for the betterment of the construction industry.
A celebration of Wayne’s outstanding achievements
With more than 16 years of experience as an industry leader and 25 years as an educator, Wayne is well-respected within the construction and environmental sectors and he understands the importance of such relationship to the success of programs and students at BCIT.
Under his leadership, the BCIT School of Construction and the Environment has seen the development of significant research programs and capacity building of Architectural Ecology and Building Science programs. Wayne has also been very successful in the application and execution of various industry and government grants, in particular, the first ever BCIT Canada Research Chair appointment.
In advancing student and industry success, Wayne has been the forerunner in developing many new credentials, including the Carpentry Framing and Forming Foundation program, Interior Design diploma and degree, Architectural Science degree, two master’s programs in Building Science, and numerous Part-time Studies certificates.
