BCIT United Way Pancake Breakfast breaks another record

The BCIT United Way Pancake Breakfast 2019 broke another record, raising over $7,200 compared to last year’s $5,060. This special event is an annual tradition for the BCIT community on Halloween. The School of Construction and the Environment organized the fundraiser and led a team of amazing volunteers. This year’s theme was superheroes. Superheroes came from all over to support the United Way of the Lower Mainland (UWLM).

Thank you to the BCIT community, sponsors, volunteers, and industry for coming out to support such a good cause. Our generous sponsors include Chartwells (Mebs Lalani, Michelle Fung and team) for all the pancakes, syrup, coffee, tea and more; BCITSA (Mike Neal) for overseeing the pancake flippers, juice and sausages; ADS Canada (Graham Hurlburt); Faber Connect (John Reid, Sebastian Jacob, Mona Rafieyan), Impact Recruitment (Michael Scott and team); Best Service Pros (Joe Arienda, Victor Lee and team); BC Construction Association Skilled Trades Employment Program (Faith Dempster, Kyle Maggs); Mark’s Commercial (Ryan Thornley); WorksafeBC (Tracy Klass) and more.

Volunteers include our BCIT United Way Campaign Chairs Gigi Machtaler and Lisa Sulatycki and Campaign Committee members;  School of Energy’s Marko Vicic; BCIT Student Success’ Liza Elliott; BCIT Audio Visual’s DJ Pablo Medeiros De Medeiros; UWLM Campaign Associate Janice Sameshima, Seymour and all of the UWLM volunteers, and members of the BCIT Leadership.

Special thanks to School of Construction and the Environment Dean Wayne Hand and Marita Luk and her organizing team, Lauren Swanson and Linda Hart for hosting this event at the Carpentry shop with the help of Don Naidesh and the many volunteers.
