BCIT is pleased to announce the appointment of Tami Pierce as Associate Director of Indigenous Initiatives and Partnerships.
Tami joins BCIT with more than 25 years of experience advancing Indigenous education. She holds a Bachelor of General Studies and a Master of Education from Simon Fraser University.
A proud Indigenous (Tsimshian) and Japanese woman, Tami was born and raised in Prince Rupert and has been a guest in the unceded traditional territory of the Coast Salish peoples since 2003.
Prior to joining BCIT, Tami was the Director of Indigenous Education and Community Engagement, at Vancouver Community College. She has taught, developed courses, and facilitated numerous workshops throughout her career. She is committed to community, partnerships, reconciliation, and Indigenization.
In this new role, Tami will work collaboratively with BCIT to implement the framework for action and accountability outlined in An Indigenous Vision. This ensures that BCIT continues to act on our responsibility to foster Indigenous awareness and promote a culture of respect and collaboration.
“I am truly inspired to read that BCIT takes this [An Indigenous Vision] responsibility seriously and we are deeply committed to Truth, Reconciliation, and Indigenization. I look forward to working collectively and collaboratively with the BCIT community to implement the goals of this vision,” says Tami.
Tami will begin her new role effective July 8, 2019.
