BCIT has been recognized by American Concrete Institute (ACI) as an Outstanding University for 2018. This ACI recognition is presented to post-secondary institutions that have participated in ACI activities and programs. The 2018 award marks the seventh year that BCIT has been honoured as an Outstanding University by ACI.
BCIT Civil Engineering students have attended ACI conferences and competed in many ACI events. Earlier this year, BCIT Civil Engineering students attended the annual American Concrete Institute’s ECO Concrete competition in Quebec City.
The students were tasked with designing their own concrete mixtures and encouraged to source recycled or alternative aggregates, and other environmentally-friendly additives. In the end, the BCIT team chose to use a combination of recycled coarse and fine aggregate substitution and fly-ash in their concrete design.
