Four Ways To Get Involved at BCIT

Get Involved at BCIT

BCIT’s education system of cohort learning provides students with a close group of friends throughout their studies. But where can you go to increase that circle and get the best experience at BCIT?

There’s a myriad of opportunities at BCIT to not only meet new people but increase your skillset. Many operations on campus need students to help them keep functioning at the high level. For example, BCIT Intramurals provides students with job opportunities in refereeing, the BCITSA needs photographers and writers to provide the content for its Link Magazine, and a plethora of student-clubs need volunteers to do the work that they do.

Intramural Services

BCIT Intramurals allows students the opportunity to work with other students either in a refereeing, time keeping or student check-in position. On a weekly basis you can be getting exercise and watching fellow BCIT students excel at a number of different sports. Not only that, but the job gives you a locker in the gym and laundry service. It’s a great excuse to start going to the gym too.

Link Magazine

At Link Magazine, the editors let you pitch stories for the magazine and pair photographers up with writers. You get to work on compelling stories that are relevant to you through current events, and current and graduated student stories. It’s an outlet to flex your creative muscle and work on something other than general schoolwork.

I’m a business student so my knowledge only really extends to business clubs on campus; however, there’s a comprehensive list of all the student clubs on campus on the BCITSA website.

Not only can these opportunities provide you with a diversified source of income, but they can increase your overall experience at BCIT. You get a feeling that you are a part of the school, and not just through your education, but through the school’s multiple different communities. And it isn’t just some mythical “sense” of community, you actually start seeing more people that you know because you’ve increased your presence on campus through the opportunities that it provides.
