For the eighth consecutive year, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has been named one of British Columbia’s Top 100 Employers.
“We are honoured to be recognized as one of the province’s top employers,” says Ana Lopez, Vice President, Human Resources and People Development. “This award is a celebration of BCIT’s most valuable asset – our outstanding staff and faculty. It is only with their expertise and dedication that we can continue to deliver high-quality, applied education for students across the province.”
Canada’s Top 100 Employers award selects BC’s Top Employers using criteria like physical workplace, work atmosphere and communications, financial benefits and compensation, health and family-friendly benefits, vacation and personal time-off, employee engagement and performance, training and skills development, and community involvement.
“Along with offering best-in-class benefits tailored to employees’ individual needs, many of this year’s winners offer a relaxed workplace culture that emphasizes healthy, active lifestyles,” says Kristina Leung, Senior Editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “The rest of the country looks to British Columbia for leadership in this field.”
Highlighted below are just a few reasons the awards committee chose to honour BCIT:
- Committed to empowering employees to learn new skills and advance in their careers, BCIT offers full tuition subsidies for courses related and unrelated to staff members current position.
- Comprehensive retirement support is provided to all employees including retirement planning assistance, contributions to a defined benefit pension plan, and a phased-in retirement work option.
- A healthy lifestyle is encouraged — all staff receive free admission to a newly renovated fitness facility, a free lunch-hour class every day, and access to variety of instructor-led fitness classes, from yoga to kickboxing.
