Hello!
I’m Sharn and I’m second year student, enrolled in Mining & Mineral Exploration Program. I’m a new blogger and look forward to share my experiences. In this post, I’ll bring you into my life living at Maquinna Residence and chat about some information about the Residence Advisor recruitment campaign.
Presently, my whole life revolves around BCIT as I live on campus residence and work here as a student ambassador. I’m an International student from India, arriving in Canada in 2015. The experience of living on campus is one of my best life experiences. It’s fascinating to share a suite with 11 other students; one of the pros of living on residence is the convenience to classes. I can literally wake up 10 minutes before my class. Moreover, various services such as gym, soccer field, health services, library etc. are in 2 minutes walking distance. In addition, cleaning services at housing make living on residence so much easier as I barely get any time from studying. I also love the scenic views from my room.
The housing office and RA’s do a very good job in making the life on residence easier and fun. They conjure numerous activities almost every month. One of such event was organized this past weekend and you can find more by checking this link.
What’s an RA?
Being an RA comes with many different jobs and tasks. Residence Advisors are students (or alumni) who provide all kinds of support to the students living on campus.
They are rule and policy enforcers, resource people, councillors, role models, activity coordinators, building managers and, most importantly, friends!
They are approachable, resourceful and very good listeners. When in need, they are your “go to” person. When you move into Maquinna, they’ll be one of the first people you’ll meet.
Some of the perks of being an RA include:
- Your own apartment and $4,000 honorarium
- Strengthen your communication, teamwork, conflict management and leadership skills
- Valuable work experience to add to your résumé
- Support students living in residence by fostering a positive, safe, and academically-oriented community
- A great opportunity to work with a great team, learn new skills, meet new friends and have some fun
This past week, the Housing Office at BCIT’s Maquinna Residence started its RA Recruitment in the search for a new RA team for the 2018/2019 school year.
