Happy 2018! Ideas for a few student-oriented New Year’s resolutions

Happy 2018 everyone!

It is time for a new beginning filled with new goals and aspirations.

For a full-time student, the new year means the start of Winter Term. This also means new classes, a new schedule, new professors and new things to learn.

This will be my second winter semester at BCIT and based on how things went last year, here are a few New Year’s resolutions I plan to make:

  1. Join something new – last year I registered for a BCIT Yoga class. Although I regularly practice yoga, I tried the BCIT class for a change of scenery and a chance to meet some of the local yoga teachers. I also started a new volunteer position last January. I think starting the year off with some new involvement and experiences is a great way to celebrate those “new beginnings” that everyone associates with the change of the year.
  2. Watch less TV – I plan to make a conscious effort to reduce the number of Netflix series I watch which could be beneficial when it comes to my course work.
  3. Continue to make time for the great outdoors – BCIT is situated in such a beautiful part of Canada with mountains, the ocean and forests nearby. I am happiest when I get to be outside but sometimes school work bogs me down and I forget to make time for it.
  4. Enjoy my (possibly) last year as a full-time student – as stressful as student life is, it is also pretty great and I plan to enjoy it as much as possible because it will end pretty quickly!

Now I realize these resolutions are pretty general and usually goal setting requires a detailed and time oriented plan. When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I am a believer in setting intentions for the year then make the more specific goals when they come up.

I hope you all have a few ideas in mind that can help you get the most out of 2018!
