BCIT International sends AST students and instructors to South Korea

This past November, the BCIT International Student Mobility program took two students and two instructors from the School of Transportation Automotive Service Technician and Operations (AST) program to teach a week of classes at OSAN University in South Korea. Through this program, BCIT students expand their applied learning experience abroad, and gain a global perspective in return.

Learning from peers

The visit to the AST partner program had a profound impact on both students and faculty members from BCIT, as well as their hosts. AST instructors and OSAN professors shared best practices and collaborated on innovative ways to implement their curriculum. The focus of the trip was to also find innovative ways to engage learners on their way to becoming successful engineers and technicians.

“We would like to thank BCIT International for an amazing experience. It was a real eye opener into what South Korea is like and it also was a great learning experience to see how international university teaching styles can be so similar. Osan University students learned a great deal from our English delivery, despite some language difficulties.” – ASTP Participants

BCIT students gained global experience not only in an academic perspective but also through automotive industrial aspects, invaluable to their future careers. One of the visits during their trip was to Hyundai Motor Company, the world’s fifth-largest automaker.

“We are fortunate to learn from our industry visit with Hyundai Motors, along with the Osan instructors. We are very grateful that BCIT has this great relationships so we could learn a lot about the culture thanks to the students in Osan University.” – BCIT AST students

More international visits will be planned for the future, given the benefits of the program and the positive feedback from both students and faculty. To learn more about this program, visit the BCIT International Student Mobility program.
