BCIT unveils a 15-passenger Ford® Transit Wagon
The BCIT School of Construction and the Environment (SOCE) held a Donor Appreciation Event to celebrate the sponsors that made this valued contribution to student success. The new transportation van will benefit select Applied and Natural Science Programs, including:
- Fish, Wildlife and Recreation
- Forests and Natural Areas Management
- Mineral Exploration and Mining Technology
- Mining and Mineral Resource Engineering (B.Eng.)
- Ecological Restoration (B.Sc., M.Sc.)
- The BCIT Rivers Institute
The van will safely transport faculty, students, and equipment from the classroom to the field. As a result, students are given the much needed chance to practice their skills through hands-on learning.
Donor contributions
The BCIT Foundation was the driving force behind the donation. The Foundation’s projects focus on improving accessibility and affordability for students, and they also focus on funding educational and research advancements.
The collaboration between donors brought an idea to life. The BC Conservation Foundation donated the van to BCIT SOCE, and even had us featured on their home page. Further, EDI Environmental Dynamics Inc. supported the operating costs of the van, and Ampco Grafix provided the gift-in-kind graphic wrapping of the van.
The unveiling
On November 17, 2017, faculty, staff, and students gathered outside at the Burnaby campus to get a closer look. Jackie Jacob, the Executive Director of BCIT Foundation, and the donors presented key speeches at the start of the event. Then, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place in the courtyard (shown below).
Stunning graphics cover the 15-passenger Ford® Transit Wagon from top to bottom. It represents BC landscapes with students working in the field. Also, written in bold letters at the top of the van is “BCIT brings the classroom to the field.”
The design also features three BCIT student models, including Julia Alards-Tomalin. She recently graduated with an Ecological Restoration degree in 2013, and is an assistant instructor in the program. On the other side is Michael Frank and Megan Gent, who are both part of the BCIT Mining and Mineral Resource Engineering Program.
Thank you to Mirabelle Rohatgi, graphic designer, and Scott McAlpine, our BCIT photographer, who made up the design team for the van wrap.
