BCIT BIG Info 2017: Will you choose BCIT?

This year, BIG Info was held at the Burnaby campus on November 15.

Many people know about the school schedule at BCIT: classes start from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during week days. It is either social life or study life at BCIT. Up to ten courses are packed in one term, including projects and assignments. However, I guess you should know more about BCIT before applying.

At BIG Info 2017, prospective students get a chance to learn more about different programs and talk with current students in full time programs. Plus, potential BCIT applicants have the opportunity to talk with program heads to understand more about their decision process for acceptance into their program. In general, all of the programs at BCIT are promoted on that day, so future students can come and take a look at the information and even discover more about BCIT. Did you know, BCIT is not just popular for its nursing program and technology programs? BCIT provides many options for pursuing a successful career.

At the start of the evening, I went to meet the Computer Information Technology (CIT) program head to understand more about the program. However, I also found myself interested in Graphic Design and Graphic Communication Technology Management. According to the website, some courses are about printing and graphic designs. Then I discovered more – it is not just about printing. Students can learn about colour combinations, design packaging paper, and logos. I found it quite interesting. Therefore, after attending to the BIG Info event, I have discovered more pathways to becoming who I want to be in the future.

Additionally, BIG Info 2017 is not just about studying. It seems like BCIT prepares us for “Life at BCIT” which means we can live and meet new people on campus in two years. To me, it seems like a short term marriage. Once students get accepted to BCIT, they can rent a room on campus. Students live together and have options to choose co-ed or single sex housing. There are six rooms on each floor and students share kitchens and washrooms. Take a look on the BCIT Student Housing website if you’re curious. The price is $600/room.

Also, if you ever feel lonely, you can join any activity to meet new friends at BCIT. There’s an International Social Club, Women in Engineering, and more. Feel free to register your name and get ready for a small party.

I hope this gives you a good impression of BCIT. Maybe, it is the beginning of a new chapter in your life: “How I met my friends”, “How I become an engineer”, or more. Let me know when you get accepted and we’ll celebrate with a big party before you commit your time as a student at BCIT.
