My name is Syd, and I’m a first-year student in the Radio Arts and Entertainment program and I’m going to be one of the student bloggers this year! I came to BCIT straight from high school, which I find is not common in my program. I’m in my second week of classes and things are pretty relaxed right now, but I’ve heard from the second-year students that things really amp up. For those of you that don’t know, the Radio Arts and Entertainment students run the on-campus radio station Evolution 107.9 and it’s the only radio station in Canada that is completely student run! Right now, the second year students run the station and the first years are learning the fundamental skills so that we’re all ready for next year when it becomes our turn!
More of an introduction to me!
I grew up in the Okanagan Valley in Summerland, which is a gorgeous place to visit. I have two cats and I love them both very much – their names are Patrick and Boots. I really enjoy cross-stitching, watching Netflix (if anyone wants to give me recommendations please do so), playing the ukulele, baking, photography and videography. I also really love to watch movies, some of my favourites are Pulp Fiction, Dirty Dancing, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I am endlessly fascinated by transit, and that sounds strange but I genuinely enjoy taking the transit in this city. I think that’s because I came from a town of 12,000 people and we only had one bus that ran maybe twice a day to the next town over. Ultimately if you wanted to go anywhere you had to have your drivers license or your friends had to have their license, unless you wanted to ask your parents to drive you somewhere! That’s a little bit about me, I hope to see you guys around campus. I’ll be working on some videos soon so be sure to stay tuned!
This is Patrick, he’s not very photogenic but he’s still a good boy.
