BCIT student chapter of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering wins 2017 President’s Award

The BCIT Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Chapter has been awarded the 2017 Canadian Society for Civil Engineering President’s Award as the top student chapter in Canada.  BCIT will share the first place award with the University of Waterloo, while Western University placed third.

This prestigious award recognizes the quality and variety of the BCIT Chapter’s activities and participation.  The outcome is even more impressive considering the BCIT Chapter was in competition with a total of twenty-five chapters from universities across Canada.  This year’s award marks the fourth time BCIT has placed first overall since the BCIT Chapter was formed ten years ago—an indication of its continued strength and success. The BCIT Chapter won in 2011, 2014, 2016, and now 2017. They also came third in 2015. BCIT Chapter representatives received their plaque at the CSCE National Conference, held in Vancouver, BC from May 31 – June 3, 2017 (pictured above).

The BCIT Department of Civil Engineering views the CSCE Chapter as a positive supplement to the students’ in-class learning experience. Chapter Executive have expressed their gratitude to the faculty and department, stating, “the support from our faculty and practitioner advisors is a key element to guiding our hard-working executive team to success every year.”
