A team of BCIT General Insurance and Risk Management students were shortlisted to compete in the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge in Philadelphia on April 23-24. This is the first time that a Canadian school has made it to the finals! The Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge was developed in 2011 to give risk management students an opportunity to showcase their skills on the international stage. The competition is an 8-month long process, where undergraduate teams compete to develop and present a comprehensive risk management program based on a provided case study. The 2017 case study is on PayPal.
The teams were judged by a panel of prestigious risk management professionals and the top nine teams are invited to present their recommendations at the 2017 RIMS Conference in Philadelphia. The top three teams will be recognized during the conference and awarded cash prizes. This is the second year BCIT has entered a team into the challenge and the first time we have been invited to present at the RIMS conference.
The BCIT General Insurance and Risk Management program is different than most, as students obtain a two year diploma, their Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation, and 8 of 10 Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) courses. Graduates can then continue their studies for another year and obtain a BCIT Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
