Sonography students get a new scanner, thanks to an old friend

BCIT sonography students now have a state-of-the-art scanner at their disposal—one that is just beginning its roll-out into the public healthcare system.

Ranbir Kang and Azmina Karim Bondy from iA Financial Group with BCITs School of Health Sciences faculty and Sonography Students

The GE Logiq scanner allows for more of the hands-on training that prepares students for the transition from classroom to clinical work. Sonography students must rack up 600 hours of lab time before they can enter their clinical rotations. This donation will help them do it.

The scanner was made possible by a $125,000 donation from iA Financial Group.  Because of this donation, students will have the opportunity to train on the most up-to-date equipment.

“As a life and health insurance company, we work to ensure the financial security of the individuals and families we serve in times of need and during a health crisis,” says Azmina Karim-Bondy, iA’s Chair of Corporate Donations and Chief Legal Counsel.

Through this donation iA is contributing to the province’s healthcare system by supporting better patient care for the communities where their stakeholders live and work. BCIT is the only school in the province that trains sonographers.

iA Financial Group has been an important partner in supporting BCIT students and alumni for over 15 years.  iA Financial Group proudly supports the BCIT Alumni Association as an Affinity Partner, sponsoring various events and providing annual scholarships. Furthermore, the company has over 30 BCIT graduates working in their Vancouver headquarters alone!

Thanks to the direct support from iA Financial Group, BCIT students will have access to the necessary educational resources they need as they embark on the path to rewarding careers.  BCIT would like to thank iA for sharing our commitment to BC’s Healthcare System through their partnership and commitment to education.
