Forensic Video Technician

The City of Campbell River is looking for a Forensic Video Technician to work within the Police Services Department of the local RCMP Detachment.
Reporting to, and taking direction from, the RCMP Municipal Manager, you will review, perform technical level forensic video analyses, and process a variety of video evidence for investigative and court purposes.
You will have completed a two (2) year technician diploma in video technology, broadcast television or another discipline relevant to the field of forensic video analysis, and have, at a minimum, three (3) years of recent experience.

2nd Annual Symposium of the Centre For Forensic Research

Simon Fraser University is hosting the 2nd Annual Symposium of the Centre for Forensic Research.  Student members of the centre will briefly explain the varied research taking place at the centre and listen to the presentations of distinguished guest speakers:

– Ernie Cooper – E. Cooper Environmental Consulting

Practicum Opportunity with VPD

Vancouver Police Department’s Planning and Research Section is looking for practicum students to begin a 3 month practicum starting January 2017.

The primary responsibilities of the Section include:

  • Providing research, evaluation, and planning services to the Department
  • Researching, developing, and maintaining policy
  • Evaluating and assessing programs
  • Assisting with a variety of quantitative and qualitative research assignments
  • Researching, developing, and producing statistical reports
  • Conducting internal process audits
  • Maintaining the VPD Regulations & Procedures Manual
  • Much more!

What will you do?

  • Tasks depending on the project… may include:
    • literature reviews/reviewing occurrence reports
    • assisting with data collection and entry (e.g., interviewing, contacting outside agencies, surveys)
    • assisting with basic descriptive analyses
    • assisting with report writing
    • helping develop studies
    • tasks vary – so please contact us for examples of assignments and roles!

Volunteer Opportunity in the Forensic DNA Lab

The BCIT Forensic DNA Lab is looking for a volunteer in the DNA lab on an ongoing basis one day a week. The volunteer would be responsible for create electronic case files for ongoing casework, decontaminating lab spaces and equipment, assembling DNA collection kits and other tasks associated with the day to day operation of an accredited forensic DNA laboratory. While the position would not allow participation in active casework, lab personnel will attempt to take every opportunity to expose the volunteer to as many forensic science techniques and interpretation as possible.

Volunteer should be available to come into the lab during standard business hours (8:00-4:30) one day a week. Preference will be given to students who have completed or are currently enrolled in FSCT 8150 and FSCT 8160. Time spent would count towards practicum hours as part of the B. Tech program. Crime Analyst Position with City of Surrey

Overview:

Surrey is home to the largest RCMP detachment in Canada with over 800 regular members and almost 300 support staff. The municipal employees who work at the Surrey RCMP provide professional support and services to police officers and the community. Services provided include: information technology, handling and dispatching of emergency and non-emergency calls, records and asset management, training and development, crime analysis, communications, prisoner management, office administration, and program management with respect to community engagement, crime prevention and early intervention services.

We are currently recruiting for a regular full time Crime Analyst 2.  The Crime Analyst 2 position specializes in research work involving the application of research techniques to support highly complex criminal investigative activities, operational programs and crime reduction strategies.

Scope:

The successful candidate will provide statistical, tactical and strategic crime analysis services and intelligence information to management; evaluate and validate intelligence information gathered from various sources while establishing and maintaining working relationships with members, staff and external agencies.  This role will require you to assist in the design and planning of projects relative to specific developments or details investigations, participate on project teams to monitor and identify the nature and score of emerging and persistent crime problems, trends as well as deliver presentations, briefings and situation reports on crime trends and related matters.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a Degree in a related discipline including coursework in applied research and statistics and a minimum of five years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

You must be able to obtain and maintain the relevant level of security clearance throughout employment with the Surrey RCMP.
