Canada Post Security and Investigation Services is responsible for the protection of the mail, information, personnel and assets of Canada Post. In British Columbia – the Investigation Services is currently looking for one Crime and Intelligence Analysis student for a very specific project. The anticipated start of this project will be June 1st, 2016. The successful candidate must be able to commit full time to this practicum.  The project scope will be to assist Canada Post’s evaluation and impact of IBM’s i2 Analytic Notebook on their investigation workload.

More specifically you will have the opportunity to:

1. Work with active investigations data and i2 Analyst Notebook,
2. Prepare investigation notes for analysis,
3. Enter investigation data into i2 Analyst Notebook, and
4. Prepare and Present i2 Chart to investigators for their use.

The successful student will be providing administrative and operational support to the Security and Investigative Services team. The primary responsibility will be assisting in an on-going file review project. Specifically, the student will review cases and produce analytical products including, but not limited to, time lines, association charts, and other analysis as identified to with the goal of developing investigative leads. The student will also collate and evaluate information received from various sources as well as report statistical trend analysis.  Within the scope of this project is also the specific evaluation of the entire investigative and analytical process.

The evaluation will consist of:

1. 3 measures of how long it takes to extract, transform and load data into i2 at the 50, 100, and 150 hour time line,
2. Analysis of challenges and lessons learned about the ETL process, and
3. Gather feedback from investigators about the quality of the i2 charts and the analysis.

The purpose of this evaluation will be to assist Canada Post Security and Investigation Services understanding of the impact i2 may have on their investigative processes.  Those interested in this practicum are required to provide a resume, cover letter, and confirmation of having completed 70% of the current Bachelor of Technology program (unofficial transcript is required).
