BCIT is Canada’s first (and only) IAFN-approved provider of SANE

Forensic Health Science is thrilled to have recently received some new accreditations thanks to the hard work of Program Coordinator Colin Harris and his team. We’ve been recognized by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) for two courses that have met the training content of the IAFN Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) Education Guidelines. Find out more on the BCIT blog.

BCIT Forensics “Virtual” Research Day

Every year BCIT Forensics hosts a “Graduation Research Presentation Day” to showcase the hard work of our current graduating class across the Forensic Science, Crime and Intelligence Analysis, and Digital Forensics & Cybersecurity options.   This is a day where our students have an opportunity to showcase their capstone graduation research project in a live 15-minute presentation.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, this year we were unable to host our research day in a in-person format.  This year the students submitted “virtual” video presentations of their research topics.  Due to this “virtual” format we decided to add a second element whereby the top 2 presentations for each option area would be showcased on the BCIT Forensics YouTube channel.

There were many great presentations to chose from and all our students did a great job presenting their chosen topic, however in the end the panel has chosen the following student presentations to represent BCIT Forensics “virtual” Research Day on YouTube:

BCIT Computing student wins hackathon with app that can support survivors of domestic abuse

Forensic Health Science instructor Tara Wilkie commended the ingenuity of a BCIT Computing student’s project, which aims to create a non-traditional route to support for survivors of domestic violence, particularly as cases of violence have been increasing during social distancing. The app, created by student Mattias Henders and his team as part of the #TogetherVSVirus hackathon, was awarded an innovation prize. Read more.
