Four Month Practicum Placement with the VPD
On behalf of the Vancouver Police Department, Sara Lee (VPD Homicide Analysis) would like to offer a placement to students currently enrolled in the BCIT Crime and Intelligence Analysis program who require a practicum. The placement is 4 months, full-time, unpaid with the VPD Homicide Unit.

Duties
The successful student will be providing administrative and operational support to the Homicide Analyst. The primary responsibility will be assisting in an on-going file review project. Specifically, the student will review Vancouver homicide cases and produce analytical products including, but not limited to, time lines, association charts, and telephone toll analysis with the goal of developing investigative leads. The student will also collate and evaluate information received from various sources as well as report on statistical trend analysis.

Creates and maintains various templates and spreadsheets for new initiatives. Performs related work as assigned, such being items of minor nature that do not affect the value of the job.

At the info session, each Program Coordinator does a general presentation about their option, giving you tips on how to apply, when to apply, and what the career prospects are in their area. After the presentation, the attendees are divided up according to the option they’re most interested in and then are given more in-depth information from their particular Program Coordinator. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions specific to your circumstances and background, to see if your career aspirations line-up with what we have to offer.

Sheila Early Wins Alumni of Influence Award from University of Saskatchewan

The University of Saskatchewan’s College of Nursing is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year and distributing Alumni of Influence awards to alumnus nominated by their peers in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the nursing profession.

Our own Sheila Early, program coordinator for Forensic Health Sciences here at BCIT, was the recipient of one of those awards. BCIT Forensic Science and Technology invites you to join us at the Bachelor of Technology Graduates Research Day on Friday June 27, 2014 from 10:00 to 16:00 in Town Square A-B, Building SE02 on Burnaby Campus.

Over 40 BTech degree students in the Computer Crime, Crime and Intelligence Analysis, and Forensic Science options will be presenting their research papers and posters. It will be a great opportunity to network with students and instructors as well as learn more about the research being done in our department.
