October 19, 2012 by cingram

Child's skullDean Hildebrand, Associate Dean for Science and Technology, and Jason Moore, Acting Program Coordinator for Crime and Intelligence Analysis, recently contributed a case to the Journal of Forensic Sciences:

“In 1968, a child’s cranium was recovered from the banks of a northern Canadian river and held in a trust until the “cold case” was reopened in 2005. The cranium underwent reanalysis at the Centre for Forensic Research, Simon Fraser University, using recently developed anthropological analysis, “bomb-pulse” radiocarbon analysis, and forensic DNA techniques.”

SFU researchers examined the skull, applying a host of modern techniques ranging from DNA to dental analysis, with assistance from our BCIT staff and Swedish and American colleagues.

The case was also recently mentioned in the Montreal Gazette and Calgary Herald in case you’d like to read more about it.
