Washington State Patrol looking for Forensic Scientists – DNA Analyst and DNA Supervisor

There are 2 positions available with the Washington State Patrol:

Forensic Scientist – DNA Analyst

Job Title: Forensic Scientist – DNA Analyst

Opening Date/Time: Thu. 08/20/15 12:00 AM Pacific Time

Closing Date/Time: Sun. 09/06/15 11:59 PM Pacific Time

Job Type: Full Time – Permanent

Location: Multiple Locations Statewide, Washington

Department: Washington State Patrol

Duties:
These positions perform independent analysis of complex DNA casework for criminal justice agencies, interpreting analytical results, preparing written opinion reports and testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.
Duties include:

  • Perform laboratory analysis of physical evidence in complex DNA casework using accepted scientific methods.
  • Document and protect evidence according to current laboratory procedures.
  • Examine and analyze evidence for the presence of biological material in criminal cases.
  • Write reports based on the interpretation of observations and analytical test results.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes.
  • Testify as an expert witness in a court of law.
 Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, natural science, or closely related field.   Examples of related fields, include but not limited to:  genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, medical technology, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry, nuclear chemistry, or toxicology.
Chemistry coursework (20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours).
Coursework in biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology (9 semester hours or 14 quarters hours combined).

Desired Qualifications:

Physics coursework (5 semester hours or 8 quarter hours)
Statistics or population genetics coursework or training.

Additional qualifications are desirable for the levels listed below:

Forensic Scientist 1:

  • One year of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence.

Forensic Scientist 2:

  • Two years of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence.

Forensic Scientist 3:

  • Three years of technical experience in a forensic laboratory performing analysis of physical evidence, which includes testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.

Job Title: Forensic Scientist 5 – DNA Supervisor

Opening Date/Time: Thu. 08/20/15 12:00 AM Pacific Time

Closing Date/Time: Sun. 09/06/15 11:59 PM Pacific Time

Salary:   $5,290.00 – $6,943.00 Monthly

Job Type: Full Time – Permanent

Location: Spokane County – Cheney, Washington

Department: Washington State Patrol

 Duties:
These positions perform independent analysis of complex DNA casework for criminal justice agencies, interpreting analytical results, preparing written opinion reports and testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.
