Forensics Staff Interviewed in the Surrey Now

June 10, 2015 by cingram

Sheila EarlySheila Early, Program Coordinator for Forensic Health Sciences, and Lynn Gifford, an instructor in the program, were recently interviewed in the Surrey Now about the help forensic nurses provide at Surrey Memorial Hospital:

“A patient comes to emergency seeking treatment for a physical injury. If the wound appears suspicious, particularly in the case of a youngster, or if the patient reveals they’ve been abused, a forensic nurse will be called in.”

The article continues on to talk about the vital role that forensic nurses play when a case goes to trial:

“Besides caring directly for patients, and gathering specimens when required, forensic nurses are called to testify in court.”

Sheila discusses the type of person who would make a great forensic nurse:

“You need an inquisitive mind. Every forensic nurse is a very good fact witness.”
