We are seeking an individual who is interested in an opportunity to serve the community in this unique position. Under the Direction of the Regional Coroner, you will work as an “as-and-when-required with no designated term date” medico-legal investigator. You must have a degree or diploma in a health, legal or social sciences field and have five years experience in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. We are seeking individuals who have experience in working effectively with community stakeholders, conducting investigative inquiries, who possess sound judgment and excellent communication skills.
This position functions on a rotating on-call basis, and the successful applicant must reside in the Lower Mainland and be available to respond to calls on a 24/7 basis while on-call. The majority of the work will entail attendance at scenes of death and gathering preliminary information, assessing the circumstances, liaising with police and other emergency responders, and providing information and assistance to family.
This position is not open to current provincial government employees, current civilian employees of any police force or health authority, or anyone in a position which may create potential conflict of interest or perception of bias or interfere with the impartiality of your role. This is not a salaried position and is not an appointment under the Public Service Act. Compensation is dependent upon the number of cases and hours worked, which may vary significantly in each community.
