The Crime Prevention Programs Facilitator performs public education work of moderate complexity related to delivering and promoting community crime prevention programs in support of the RCMP Crime Reduction Strategy (CRS) for the City of Burnaby. An incumbent in this position facilitates workshops, provides presentations, and liaises with a variety of community partners, the public, as well as RCMP and city employees. The Crime Prevention Programs Facilitator is also responsible for conducting security assessments of properties, drafting detailed reports for review by a supervisor.
The Crime Prevention Programs Facilitator initiates and maintains contact with a variety of community partners to promote the merits and expand the use of crime prevention programs through the city, communicating with the public, internal and external stakeholders. The Facilitator is responsible for drafting detailed Crime Alerts for review based on communication provided by the RCMP to support the CRS. This position also assists to identify problem properties, developing and implementing improvement strategies in conjunction with the CRS. The Crime Prevention Programs Facilitator provides work direction to a small group for volunteers and/or practicum students. A large administrative load is required of the position, in that the Facilitator prepares, maintains, assembles and reviews a variety of promotional materials, reports, correspondence, records and file management systems, operating procedures and statistics related to the work. The Facilitator will also review police service calls to identify potential problem areas of properties, participate in the development of procedures and by-laws related to crime prevention and perform related work as required.
Qualifications include the completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by some post-secondary training in criminology plus considerable related experience, including some experience in promoting community based programs, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with public speaking is necessary. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is also required. The successful applicant will have considerable knowledge of the objectives, principles and procedures of the RCMP CRS, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design principles and practices, as well as crime prevention programs in the City. The ability to maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts is required along with the ability to promote and expand the use and development of the program. The ability to maintain and prepare a variety of detailed reports, use electronic data management systems and maintain a large administrative workload is critical to the success of this role, as is the ability to work independently in a fast paced work environment.
SALARY RANGE: $3,974 – 4,141– 4,311 – 4,489 – 4,677/month (Pay Grade 18)
STATUS: Regular Full Time
SCHEDULE: 70 hours bi-weekly
