This is administrative support and entry-level specialized technical forensic work performed in the RCMP Forensic Identification Section. The successful employee will perform technician-level forensic video analysis duties including: receiving, prioritizing and reviewing video evidence from various sources; recovery of video evidence from various devices and media; still image capture; video and image enhancement; conversion of video formats and preparing video and images for disclosure and presentation in court; and preparing technician level forensic video analysis reports. The employee will be required to work with considerable independence of judgement and action within defined guidelines and policies, although work will be reviewed by a supervisor in terms of effectiveness of services and to ensure that the work is in conformance of established policies and procedures. This role includes administrative support for the unit which includes preparing reports, relevant computer work and data entry, liaising with vendors, arranging for services and payment and processing of travel, expense and overtime costs. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and a diploma in video technology, broadcast television or another discipline relevant to the field of forensic video analysis plus sound experience in the area; sound knowledge of forensic imaging and video conversion techniques, the RCMP’s operations, policies and procedures and the theories, practices, technology and techniques related to the work; ability to prepare video and images for disclosure and presentation and prepare and maintain documentation, reports and files and the ability to review, convert, enhance, edit and process video from a variety of sources; the ability to exercise independence of judgment, high level of attention to detail and provide testimony in court. Ability to provide administrative and clerical support and handle standard office procedures for a section as well as strong MS Office and relevant computer skills. Experience using the PRIME system and related police databases is considered an asset. The successful applicant must obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance and a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
