Dean Hildebrand, Associate Dean of Forensics here at BCIT, wanted me to make available to our students and visitors a report that was recently prepared by the University of Toronto’s Centre of Forensic Science and Medicine titled, Forensic Science in Canada: a multi-disciplinary discussion (also known as the Hart House Report). The report represents the efforts of various forensic scientists from all over Canada that attended a 2 day meeting at Hart House at the University of Toronto in May 2012, to discuss the status for forensic science in Canada.
The report describes the activities of the major forensic disciplines in the areas of: service, education, and research. The report also includes recommendations aimed at growing and developing forensic science. The hope was that academic institutions; governments; professional associations and societies; and forensic stakeholders find the report informative and that tabling this report becomes the necessary first step in progressing and modernizing forensic science in Canada, in the 21st century.
