Audio Transcription Specialist Job Opportunity

Position: Contract / Temporary
Pay Rate: Contract rate of $60.00 per hour of transcribed audio; rate may be increased for poor quality audio.

Duties
Responsibilities are to produce accurate, verbatim typed transcripts from audio files. The audio files provided will contain explicit details of investigations, including topics that are very sensitive in nature. A variety of equipment & software will be used to transcribe digital audio formats. Related duties may also be assigned.  This position is on a contract/casual basis, and as such hours of work will be flexible.  A work schedule will be defined at a later date with the successful candidate.  The approximate hours per week will vary based on the transcription load. All work must be conducted onsite at Blackstone Forensics’ secure lab located in North Vancouver.

Requirements
Grade 12 supplemented by relative forensic training and/or experience in the criminal justice system. Training and experience in computer programs and experience in transcribing from transcription equipment preferred. A minimum requirement of 50 WPM along with accurate data entry skills is required. Preference will be given to those with a working knowledge of forensic processes and an ability to accurately transcribe audio for court and inquiry purposes. The ability to pay attention to detail is essential along with a proven command of the English language. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must pass a criminal record check and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Selection Process
Applicants will be required to take a 15-minute transcription test. Applicants must have availability Tuesday to Friday during regular office hours.
