SALARY: $79,352 – $93,753

The New Westminster Police Department requires a Crime Analyst to join the Support Services Division. Reporting to the Staff Sergeant in charge of the Criminal Investigations Unit, this is specialized work involving the application of complex research techniques to support investigative activities and assist NWPD managers in effectively deploying resources. Responsibilities include but are not limited to collecting, analyzing and interpreting a variety of investigative and intelligence data; preparing reports and recommendations based upon analyses; assisting in design or planning of projects; establishing and maintaining liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts. The incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgment and action in carrying out assignments.

Requirements include:

  • University graduation in criminology, mathematics, computing, information technology, geography or a related discipline, PLUS a Degree in a Forensic Science Technology Program with a specialization in Crime and Intelligence, OR an Advanced Specialty Certificate in Crime and Intelligence Analysis, OR Successful completion of basic related courses.
  • A minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience in a similar work environment.
  • Core competency training will include i2 Analyst Notebook, iBase, i2 WorkStation, ESRI ArcGIS 9.3 with the ESRI Crime Analyst Extension.
  • Sound working knowledge related software applications such as Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Adobe, PRIME, CAD, CPIC, JUSTIN & CORNET is essential.
  • Considerable working knowledge in research, statistical and analytical principles and techniques commonly applied in the law enforcement environment.
  • Ability to perform complex analytical assignments, interpret and summarize a wide variety of raw and core investigative data, and identify linkages, interrelationships and to present work results, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to contribute to the development, planning and implementation of various crime reduction strategies and department initiatives.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in a fast paced work environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, police personnel and external contacts.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass and maintain an Enhanced Security Clearance.
