National Child Maltreatment Symposium
November 25-28, 2012
The National Child Maltreatment Symposium is specificaly designed for multidisciplinary teams working in the area of child maltreatment. Our focus will be to identify the ways in which multidisciplinary child abuse investigation teams have evolved to effectively and successfully work in the best interests of children.
The symposium will be held in three stages, over four days, participants can select which phases are most applicable to their work.
Phase One – November 25
Third Canadian Symposium on Advanced Practices in Child Abuse Pediatrics: Medical Evaluation of Suspected Physical Abuse.
For Physicians who:
• have experience with clinical evaluation of suspected child physical abuse and/or have attended previous conferences/training in the area and/or have testified in court related to children with suspected injuries
• provide medical opinions in cases of suspected physical abuse, which are utilized by child welfare agencies and the criminal justice system.
Pediatric Sexual Abuse/Assault Training
For Nurses who:
• received training as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner – Adult/Adolescent.
• have been practicing for over one year in the area of sexual assault.
• are currently providing or will be providing service for pediatric sexual abuse/assault victims.
For Physicians who are:
• currently providing or will be conducting medical evaluation for pediatric sexual abuse/assault victims
Phase Two – November 26 and November 27
Multidisciplinary Child Maltreatment Team – Best Practice Issues
For members of established or emerging multidisciplinary child abuse investigation teams
Phase Three – November 28
