Help Catch a Rioter

February 28, 2012 by cingram

Rioters smashing windows at Sears in Downtown VancouverThe excerpt below is from a message forwarded to me by the VPD. I agreed to post it on our blog because I know many people in the Lower Mainland were outraged by the Stanley Cup Riot on June 15th and feel helpless about how to bring the perpetrators to justice. Maybe one of our readers can help catch a rioter…

As you are well aware, the Integrated Riot Investigation Team of 60+ police officers, analysts and civilian members have been working hard at holding rioters accountable for their part on June 15th. To date, we have recommended 350 criminal charges against 125 rioters, and there are many more still to come. With a lot of work ahead of us, we are asking for your help in forwarding this information to your family, friends and co-workers.

On the night of June 15th, hundreds of people committed criminal acts and by many measures, it became the largest crime spree in the history of B.C. The investigation has been daunting, time-consuming and exhaustive. But we knew it would be. On the morning of June 16th, while burned cars were being towed and broken glass swept up, we made a decision. We decided then that we owed it to the victims of this crime and the outraged citizens of our community to do the right thing.

If you’re wondering how you can help as well, please visit our website and see if there is anyone there you recognize. We aren’t pursuing people who stood by and watched as crimes were being committed; we are after those who destroyed property, looted businesses, started fires and assaulted those who got in their way.

We are taking these extraordinary measures because this was an extraordinary event that our community will never forget.
