Mexican food in Vancouver and a fun fact about burritos!

Have you ever wonder here to eat authentic Mexican food in Vancouver?

Mexican food is known as one of the best kinds of food in the world, but not all the places of course are authentic, specially if you’re not in Mexico.

But first let’s talk about Burritos! Is that real Mexican food? The answer is not really, burritos as are known today are more of a Mexican- American dish, they were invented in Northern Mexico but the recipe has been changing over the time in the USA, so the burritos that we know nowadays are more Mexican- American than Mexican. 

If you go to the North of Mexico you will be able to find some burritos, but as farther in the south you go in the country, the harder to find it, actually you will only find it in restaurants that are made for tourists.

A fun fact about burritos: Do you know it means a little donkey?. There’s no really an answer why the burrito are call this way, but there’s some theories that back in time burritos will be transported in the back cart of a donkey that will be pulling it.

Now that you know that burritos are not really Mexican authentic you may be wondering what to try? Well of course tacos is always a good option but with soft tortilla are the authentic ones not with crispy one, also if you like soups “Sopa de Tortilla” and “Pozole” are very delicious and a bit spicy Mexican soups, if you like something crispy you gotta try “Tostadas” with is a crispy flat tortilla with some meat, beans, cream, lettuce and cheese and if you want something soft that is not tacos then “Enchiladas” are amazing, is tortilla filled with usually meat but can be veggies too and with lots of sauce that can be spicy or not on top of it. And always Mexican rice and beans are something to have as a side of your meals!

If you want to try Mexican drinks (non-alcoholic) there’s a very famous pop names “Jarritos” but the rice water “Horchata” and “Jamaica” water are very delicious too!

So where to find this food in Vancouver? My to go options will be: “The Mexican, Antojitos y Cantina” in Granville St., “Patron, tacos & Cantina” in Robson St., “Ophelia” in Olympic Village, “Salsa & Agave Mexican Grill” in Pacific Blvd. and “La Casita” in Gastown.

There’s so many delicious Mexican restaurants around metro Vancouver, but this ones for sure will give you very delicious food and a nice experience.
