Scotty Hills’ from Saskatoon

Have you ever been drawn to a singer’s vocals and listened to the entire song without necessarily reading the lyrics? When I was looking for singers on Vancouver Island, one singer came up. The gentle voice and soft melody are my first impression of him. When I first came into contact with his songs, I was attracted by his singing and immersed in the beautiful music world he created.

He is the singer who I want to introduce to everyone today, Scotty Hills’ , who was born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was doing his best to sing like Aretha Franklin or Diana Ross on the radio when he was two years old. By the age of four, Hills was working in the studio with his mother, a live singer who recorded radio commercials. His country blues sound is mixed with mature soul, an accurate reflection of his early days shared between the city and the farm.

Scotty started his career as a drummer, most famously touring with alt-blues band The Perpetrators, co-writing/producing the 2006 Juno Award-nominated album The Gas and the Clutch. After touring Europe in 2008 with his self-produced debut solo album Wonderland Urgency, Scotty moved to Calgary, Alberta, before producing his genre-hopping sophomore album Year of Septembers on the West Coast. This 2013 release caught the attention of Ole Indie Publishing, where Scotty signed a three-year contract to split his time at famed Hollywood studio Westlake touring, recording and writing for R n’B icon Rihanna. This allowed Scotty to explore his long-standing love of R n’B music.

He is about to perform live in Vancouver this May. I am looking forward to seeing his performance. I hope he can continue to release more albums and continue to use simple melodies and infectious rhythms to perform more songs. Let more people hear this wonderful song.
