The Vancouver matches mark the first for the Canadian’s Men’s National Team on home soil since qualifying for the World Cup, which was a 4-0 win over Jamaica at Toronto’s BMO Field on March 27.

It also marks the Canadian men’s first visit to BC Place since March 2019, which was when they beat French Guiana 4-1 in CONCACAF Nations League qualifying.

Canada will be closing out the FIFA international window after the set of matches at BC Place with another CONCACAF Nations League game against Honduras in San Pedro Sula on June 13th.

Canada has a 1-2-0 record all-time against Iran, winning the most recent match 1-0 in April 2001 in Cairo, Egypt. Iran posted 1-0 wins over Canada in 1997 and 1999 games in Toronto and Edmonton respectively.

The matches are set to take place as both Canada, ranked 38th in the world, and Iran, No. 21 in the world, are preparing for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Canada has been drawn into Group F alongside Belgium, Croatia and Morocco, while Iran has been drawn into Group B alongside England, USA and a European Playoff winner who is still to be decided.

The Iran match is one of the few World Cup warmups the Canadian National Team in advance of Qatar. Canada head coach John Herdman has said he will look to take the team to Europe in the fall to play several more matches in preparation for Qatar.
