The yearly daytime binge of NFL Football was upon us today and it didn’t look as familiar as we are use to.

Earlier in the week, the NFL announced that due to positive COVID-19 tests and concern for player health, the night time cap of the Thanksgiving day slate between Pittsburgh and Baltimore was postponed to Sunday.

With this, it was a little bit less of a spectacle for fans not only in the United States, but that of NFL fans across the globe. The first matchup between the Lions and Texans was as bad or worse than we could’ve envisioned. Detroit came in a beat up team and showed just that on the field. Without key playmakers Kenny Golladay and rookie DeAndre Swift, Detroit’s offence looked unbearably dysfunctional.

The centrepiece of their offensive production for the game was Adrian Peterson, who managed to run in two scores for touchdowns, other than that, it was a rough day for Matt Patrica at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Texans on the other hand looked like a team who is playing inspired football lately thanks to interim Head Coach Romeo Crennel and QB magician Deshaun Watson. The Texans have 7 losses on the year, but only one of them have come against a team not currently holding a playoff position, that is a tough assignment dealt by the NFL schedule makers.

Houston made it look simple on Thursday morning, throw for multiple deep ball touchdowns to the likes of speedster Will Fuller, as well as elusive back Duke Johnson JR.

Watson heaved the ball for a whopping 318 yards and 4 touchdowns, embarrassing the Lions on international TV.

As the playoffs are more of a miracle for both squads, a game like this one on Thanksgiving is one of the more solicitied games they will play all year. For the Lions, it was a disaster, familiar to the last 30 years of the franchise. For Watson and the Texans, it was a nice stepping stone for a team that has showed flashes of brilliance for the majority of the season.
