I’ve been a fan of pop culture for as long as I can remember. I remember growing up wanting to know about the Britney and Christina feud (I still do), wondering whatever happened to Jonathan Taylor Thomas or what Nicole Ritchie was drinking. All of that and more was and still is so fascinating to me.
One thing, I have always noticed being a fan of pop culture is that others look down at people like me for admitting that we’re fans. It always perplexes me because everyone loves pop culture. Why is it so wrong to enjoy celebrity culture? Sometimes it’s nice to just get lost in that world because everything else around us is terrible.
The same thing goes for loving a different type of music. I am a person who enjoys all kinds of music. With that being said, if I’m listening to a pop song, so many times I get odd faces or responses. I don’t understand what is up with that.
In a world that is so interconnected, I find it laughable that judgement still happens. As open as I am with what I enjoy today, growing up, I felt the need to conform to what I thought the world wanted me to be. And that was why I felt that I had to hide my loves.
I was super young back then but now, who cares? I wish we could all just live our lives not caring what other people think. No one is doing anything wrong, we like what we like and that’s what makes us great.
