Food price increases next year

What do you think about the price of groceries in supermarkets? If you think they are already a bit too heavy, then…you gotta be ready for this. According to a study conducted by Dalhousie and Guelph Universities, food prices in Canada will be going up in 2019 to approximately $411. Even to compare with inflation and whatnot…that’s still a lot to add.

The study says meat and seafood prices are expected to go down or stay the same. If you are a meat-lover, you may laugh now. Same with dairy, it has a chance from no increase to 2% of an increase. So what’s really going to bring up our bills? The answer given is that fruits and veggies are expected to increase the price, especially with veggies which are anticipated to increase by 4% to 6%.

I don’t know about you but I feel fruits and veggies are a bit pricey already, especially fruits. People need to consume more Vitamin C for the sake of their health, and it’s not cool to pay a lot for that. I’d like to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. However I feel meat generally has a fair price, maybe it’s because I came from a place where veggies are very cheap whereas meat was quite expensive.

Let’s just hope our average income will increase as well to make our lives easier next year, mainly due to the fact that Vancouver is already one of the most expensive cities to live in the world.
