Just two day into a new council, Surrey’s new mayor Doug McCallum is wasting no time in accomplishing election campaign promises.
The City of Surrey will be terminating its contract with the RCMP in favour of creating a municipal police force. RCMP were contracted to work from April 2012 until March 2032 and the deal may be terminated at any time, as long as two years’ notice is given.
McCallum’s platform ran on such ideals and the motion met no resistance. It was passed unanimously and McCallum is expecting to have the municipal force ready to go in two years time.
