For those who have never watched it before, reality television show, Dragons’ Den typically consists of a board of 5 Canadian venture capitalists who are interested in investing money out of their own pockets in an exchange for equity.
In the business world that is male-dominated, the Canadian show has done a good job in the casting of the program to prove how women have made an impact in both the field, and in the world.
In 2015, the 5-person panel contained 2 women for the first time in the shows history. Then for season 12 they added an additional female “Dragon” to the board, equalling out the number of male to female “Dragons”.
It currently remains this way for the 13th season.
Not only is it an awesome angle for the show to push, but Manjit Minhas, Michele Romanow and Arlene Dickinson are the successful entrepreneurs who make up the women on the panel that could inspire other women as well as other productions across the world.
And maybe it will be shows like Dragons’ Den that can help in trying to get society to a point where having an even number of men to women on a panel will just be normal and not even be considered ‘news’.
